Muriel was born in Buffalo, New York and at the age of 9 her father drove the family to San Diego, California in the heat of summer pulling a U-Haul trailer. She recalls the car overheating on a mountain pass and her Dad cooking a can of pork and beans on the hood of the car.

After high school, Muriel studied Natural Sciences at San Diego State University, which is where she met her husband Joe. At a later date they enrolled in classes at Humboldt State University in northern California.

Following this, the pair drove to Jasper, Canada with their two children, eventually settling in Bandon on the southern Oregon coast.

Muriel continued her art education by taking lessons from local artists, as well as enjoying a workshop with E. John Robinson. She travelled to Wyoming where she she studied painting horses from life under Western artist Charles Dayton. In addition, she enjoyed an online mentoring course with Matt Smith.

Muriel enjoys Plein Air painting and her philosophy is that if you can see your subject matter from life, then you can understand it better. She enjoys visiting museums and art galleries to observe the techniques and styles of other artists.
Her travels have taken her to various parts of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador.

The work displayed here is a representation of the artist’s work and these pieces may not be currently available
