About the Artist

Jean was born and brought up in Illinois and met her husband while attending the University of Illinois. After graduation, they moved to California where, between pregnancies she took art classes at the local community college...taking many art classes as she could.

After being transferred to Tucson, Arizona then back to Long Beach, California. Jean became part of an art group and we would have monthly critiques, classes, and shows..On the next transfer to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Jean attended the Alberta College of Art. While there, she expanded her horizon by taking some pottery class. Jean’s enjoyment with pottery promoted her to started a studio upon their return to California where she began some teaching as well

Later, the Stephenson’s bought some land in Langlois, OR where Jean could raku and do different kinds of firing without having to warn the neighbors first. They built their home and her studio was was in the garage and then built a wonderful studio. After more than twenty-five years of potting, Jean’s wrists couldn’t continue so back to painting Jean went. She is currently a member of Art by the Sea Gallery and Studio where she is one of the co-founders and celebrating over 10 years in existence.

Jean wants to continue doing art for a very long time, working now in pastel, oil, acrylic, permanent pigment and collage. I love all of it.
