Art by the Sea is Happy to Announce that

Sharon Leahy

Will be the Judge of the “Celebrate the Square”

Sharon Leahy’s Story

Art by the Sea Gallery Welcomes Sharon Leahy as the Judge for our “Celebrate the Square” Community Show. Sharon has been in love with colors since she was a child and feels lucky to have been born to an artist and raised to appreciate art in all its forms.  Sharon describes her earliest babysitters as “crayons, colored pencils, and watercolors.”

She has enjoyed a long and adventurous career as an artist, exploring painting, quilting, and textiles and more.  During her years of office work, she was always drawn to color, especially deeply saturated watercolors. Throughout her life and especially during times of emotional upheaval, Sharon gravitated toward expression through color and spiritual iconography, in panting on patterned fabric, which eventually led her to quilting.  She summarizes her experiences as though she “fell into a huge network of happy, funny, creative, clever, interesting, self-challenging, playful, fabric-addicted art quilters who all love color, texture, pattern, and playtime!

In recent years, Sharon has been exploring hand dying, exotic dying, and dye-painting  techniques on fabrics, to express her love of color.  She finds joy in “designing and creating wearable art, pictorial wall hangings, and custom bed coverings.”  Sharon says it’s a “thrill to see my fabric art in galleries and museum shows.”

As a returning judge for Art by the Sea Gallery, we look forward to hearing Sharon’s insightful and encouraging remarks on the entries.  She has described herself as a “Dedicated instigator of Fun, Artist, Essayist, Poet, Reiki Master,  Hypnotherapist” and more!  We always enjoy Sharon’s energy and appreciation for Beauty, Nature, the artists and their work in all media.
